Board of Directors

Website Senior Gleaners of San Diego County

We feed the hungry by gathering surplus crops and unsold groceries for food distributors across San Diego County. We also provide meaningful activity and social connections for our senior volunteers.

The Board of Senior Gleaners of San Diego County sets policy, strategic direction, promotes Senior Gleaners, leads in fund-raising and collectively exercises fiduciary responsibility. The board defines the mission of Senior Gleaners and approves plans to fulfill that mission. The board consults with and oversees the work of the part-time General Manager who handles the day-to-day operations of the organization.

The Board Member and Secretary for Senior Gleaners performs the following tasks:

  1. Take minutes at board member meetings and distribute minutes for review.
  2. Check the Senior Gleaners’ Post Office box for mail, and disseminate mail to the appropriate board member. The mail is checked weekly, or more often if Senior Gleaners are expecting a grant check or are in the midst of a fundraising campaign.
  3. Opens received mail, logs checks received and then sends the checks to the Treasurer.
  4. Sends other correspondences to the President, or the appropriate board member.
  5. Support communications/outreach to community groups as needed, such as written information or phone interviews regarding Senior Gleaners.

Senior Gleaners board members serve as volunteers and are selected because of interests in the mission of Senior Gleaners and the desire to see the organization function well. Board members may be of any age, should reflect the communities that we serve, and bring personal skill-sets that enhance the oversight and management of the organization.
