About RISE
Rise Youth Theater Collective is San Diego’s home for exceptional performing arts education — an inclusive space where students grow as artists, families find community, and excellence is defined not just by impressive productions but by the quality of the education.

We are co-founded by Caryn Ipapo-Glass (California Credentialed Teaching Artist, Director of Dance at Coronado School of the Arts) and Maris Goodstein (Executive Coach, former nonprofit Executive Director). RISE launches its inaugural season in spring 2027 with a mainstage production of How to Train Your Dragon The Musical Jr.

We are incorporated, federally recognized as a 501(c)(3), fully governed with a seated founding board, and actively building our programs and community. This is not a bet on potential — it is a bet on a foundation that is already solid.

Board Seats We Are Actively Recruiting
We are seeking board members who bring specific expertise in one or more of the following areas:

Fundraising & Development Leadership: A true fundraising partner for our Board Chair — someone who loves building relationships, has a network of potential funders, and is energized by helping a mission-driven organization build its financial foundation.

Community Building & Events: A connector with deep San Diego roots — someone with experience planning community events, building civic relationships, and turning strangers into stakeholders. We want RISE to be a name San Diego knows. This person helps make that happen.

Performing Arts & Youth Arts Education Experience: Someone who has been in a rehearsal room and understands from the inside what high-quality youth performing arts education looks like. A thought partner for our Artistic Director and a champion for RISE’s artistic vision at the board level.

Nonprofit Governance & Board Experience: Someone who has served on nonprofit boards before and can help RISE build the governance habits and structures that create long-term organizational health. Comfort with fiduciary responsibility, board-staff dynamics, and constructive accountability.

What We Ask of Board Members
Attend quarterly board meetings (virtual)
Come prepared and participate actively
Support RISE financially at a level personally meaningful to you
Open doors — introductions, referrals, and advocacy
Serve as an ambassador for RISE’s mission in your personal and professional networks
Time commitment: Varies by role — estimated 1-3 hours per month depending on committee involvement

What RISE Offers Board Members

Clear, timely financial reporting and organizational information
