The Fieldstone Leadership Network San Diego has a long history of developing nonprofit leaders. In 2019, we launched a new thread of programming called Project Stone Catcher to provide opportunities for nonprofit leaders to develop the skills and understanding necessary to lead nonprofit organizations in the areas of diversity, equity, and inclusion and to advance social justice issues for the broader community. While investing in the individual capacity to advance equity in our organizations, and as our learning progressed together, we recognized a need for new processes and applications to support a new way of doing business – including recruiting for a diverse board of directors.
In response, we have crafted the Nonprofit Board Exchange as a community resource to publicize openings on local nonprofit boards and supply information on available trainings for those who serve in this important role. It is our hope that The Nonprofit Board Exchange will serve as an effective tool to advance equity and increase board diversity throughout our local sector.
Understanding the vital role boards play in a nonprofit’s success, building and supporting effective, well-developed, and diverse boards must be one of our highest priorities. Thus, we are proud of the many community colleagues who have contributed to this effort through their partnerships and endorsements.
As our world continues to evolve and become more and more diverse, it is imperative that leaders choose to be inclusive every day. We are better when we welcome people from diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences to help us do all that is required to lead our nonprofit organizations. And as people who serve the community with fundamental and important services, being better matters. We believe the Nonprofit Board Exchange will help us do better.
