Certify corporate documents when required by banks, grantors, or government agencies
Serve on the board as a full voting director with the same fiduciary duties as all directors

Establish banking, bookkeeping, and basic internal controls appropriate to an organization our size
Oversee the annual budget; present financial reports at each board meeting in plain language
Monitor cash flow, expenditures, and compliance with board-approved spending
Ensure timely federal and state filings, including Form 990/990-N once we receive determination, and California Form 199 and RRF-1 as applicable
Help develop financial policies: expense reimbursement, check signing authority, conflict of interest, gift acceptance
Support the 501(c)(3) application by preparing required financial projections
Serve on the board as a full voting director with the same fiduciary duties as all directors

Qualifications:

Background in accounting, finance, bookkeeping, or nonprofit financial management; CPA or equivalent a strong plus
Familiarity with nonprofit accounting and IRS reporting requirements preferred, or willingness to learn them
Able to explain financial position clearly to a board without finance backgrounds
Comfortable setting up systems where none currently exist
Military-connected background welcome but not required
Time commitment: Approximately [4–6] hours per month, with additional time during setup and at fiscal year end.
