The Just Convergence — Trustee, Board of Trustees

The Just Convergence strengthens community-rooted solutions for justice-involved individuals and their families by building capacity, convening aligned partners, strengthening research and evidence, and cultivating justice-led solutions. We believe that when families stay connected through incarceration and reentry, communities heal.

We are a California 501(c)(3) nonprofit seeking 1–2 passionate, mission-aligned individuals to join our Board of Trustees. We are at an exciting growth stage — actively pursuing federal funding and building governance infrastructure to scale responsibly.

We are specifically seeking candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas. Finance, accounting, or audit with nonprofit or federal grant experience preferred. Legal including nonprofit law, federal contracts, employment law, or criminal justice. Lived or professional experience with the justice system as an impacted individual, family member, advocate, or service provider. We welcome any candidate who brings genuine passion, energy, and enthusiasm for our mission.

Trustees are expected to attend and actively participate in quarterly board meetings, review and approve the annual budget and quarterly financial reports, vote on organizational resolutions and decisions, complete an annual Conflict of Interest Questionnaire, serve on board committees as assigned, make a personal annual financial contribution of any amount, serve as a mission ambassador within their networks, and uphold the organization’s bylaws, policies, and ethical standards.

Member term is one year, elected annually each June, with no limit on consecutive terms.

Time commitment is approximately 20 hours per year including quarterly board meetings, the annual organizational meeting in June, committee participation, and document review as needed.

Trustees are asked to make one personally meaningful financial contribution per fiscal year in any amount. There is no minimum. What matters is 100% board participation. Individual gift amounts are kept strictly confidential.

Quarterly meetings are held approximately in March, June, September, and December in person in San Diego, California or by video conference. Hybrid attendance is available.

Candidates must be at least 18 years of age, have no material conflict of interest with the organization, be committed to the mission of The Just Convergence, and be willing to complete an annual Conflict of Interest Questionnaire. Priority expertise in finance and accounting, legal, or lived justice system experience is strongly preferred. We are looking for collaborative, engaged individuals who are willing to contribute substantively.

Trustees are protected by California nonprofit volunteer liability protections under Corporations Code Section 5239, organizational indemnification, and Director and Officer liability insurance. The Just Convergence is committed to building a board that reflects the diversity of the communities we serve and strongly encourages applications from individuals with lived experience with the justice system, people of color, women, and individuals from historically underrepresented communities.
